Media Log: Recent DVDs Edition
Caught up on some DVDs recently. It’s quite amazing what expectations can do for movie enjoyment.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (**): I knew this wouldn’t be amazing but I thought it would be cheesy in a Dead or Alive movie sort-of-way. I originally gave it three stars (I Liked It) but moved it down to 2 because there really wasn’t anything memorable about the movie. The action scenes were short and merely decent, which was disappointing since this was what I was looking forward to (since I knew the plot would be non-existent).
Push (***): I was actually quite looking forward to this since I’m a fan of the television show Heroes. The movie is quite similar in concept in that there are people with different abilities (telekinesis, future reading, mind-convincing, etc). Unfortunately, at almost two hours the movie is about 30 minutes too long and needed more action to show off the powers. The plot was okay, though.
Dragonball: Evolution (****): Surprisingly good, probably because it’s under an hour and a half. The movie knows that it isn’t going to win any awards and instead packs in some good action scenes, silly jokes, and attractive leads. A great movie to watch events unfold without having to think very much. (Interestingly, it stars The Real World: San Diego’s Jamie Chung).
