Media Log: Catchup Edition

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (****): Saw this on IMAX sitting way too close to the screen. It made it a bit tough to tell what was going on at all times (though I hear this was a common complaint despite where you were sitting). Nonetheless, I was only expecting big robots, good action scenes, and massive explosions. Michael Bay delivered the goods. I was pleasantly surprised with the unexpected comedic relief (even the twins, which I thought were hilarious). The two big action scenes were fantastic, though the movie could have used a couple more and some 30-60 minutes shorter runtine.

The Proposal (****): Another pleasant surprise. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Renolds were quite good together. It’s a typical summer romantic comedy in that you know how it’s going to end but the movie managed to introduce some ripples to the now-standard story. The Office’s Oscar was hilarious though one of his scenes was a bit too much for me.

Year One (***): What a disappointment. Jack Black definitely took advantage of Michael Cera fans like me to drag us to see this movie. It’s been called “a really long version of the trailer,” which is very accurate. It needed a lot less Jack Black and a lot more Cera, who was responsible’s for the movies funniest scenes and quotables.
